Food - Clothing - Housing - Furniture Programs
We are a not-for-profit organization designed to provide you with free information and referrals to agencies that can help you. In addition to coordinating with other service agencies, AFL-CIO Community Services offer Food, Furniture, Clothes, and Rental Referral Programs. There are no eligibility requirements and no charges for the service or items received.
Food Pantry Referral List
Community Services provides a list of food pantries in Northwest Missouri and Doniphan County in Kansas. The list includes address, phone number, days/hours of operation, and whether or not they distribute USDA commodities.
Community Clothes Closet
The Community Clothes Closet is open to the public and offers new and donated, "gently - used" clothing and small household goods.
Everything is very reasonably priced. If a person is unable to pay, arrangements can be made to waive charges. Clothes Closet is located at 1203 North 6th Street. Hours are Monday-Friday: 8 AM – 4 PM, and Saturday: 8 AM – 1 PM. Come as often as you like.
Listing of other free closets or thrift store locations in the area is available.
DONORS: Clothing donations are tax deductible. Pick-up of donations is available on Tuesdays.
Rental Referral List
We have a list available of low cost rental property in the St. Joseph, MO and surrounding rural area. It includes property owner's name, phone number, address of rental property, brief description of property, and whether the owner accepts subsidized housing.
Individuals must make contact with the property owner directly for current availability and further details.
Furniture Exchange
Our Furniture Exhange Program matches individuals who need furniture with donors of furniture. To access program, call or come into our office and request the items needed.
All requests for furniture are processed in the order received. You will be contacted immediately when the item you requested is donated. You will need to come to our office for a written referral to give to the donor.
Recipients are asked to pick up the items directly from the donors. If you have no form of transporting the items the agency will try and make delivery arrangements.
There are no eligibility guidelines, and no charge for this program.
DONORS: Furniture and household goods are donated and are tax deductible.
