The AFL-CIO partnered with local cancer advocates to provide financial support to cancer patients and survivors. This fund can be used for any reasonable expenses incurred by the families who are dealing with the impact cancer can have on their lives, including household expenses, transportation, etc.

Program Basics
- Funds are gathered through an annual event and direct donations.
- Those seeking assistance can contact the agency; information is collected, presented to the committee, and funds are paid to the creditor on behalf of the client.
- Anyone living in the coverage area of the agency (18 counties in Missouri and Doniphan County in Kansas) can apply for the fund. There are no income requirements or limitations; the committee will consider all requests and provide cause for those they deny.
- The majority of other local cancer-related funds are limited to medical bills or prescriptions and/or are designated to specific facilities.
- In 2025, 33 households, including 52 adults, 11 seniors, and 44 children received funds at total of $18,206. Types of assistance covered were rent/housing, energy bills, and sewer/water bills
